Have you experienced a scenario where your Snapchat filters are not working? Whether it is Snapchat face swap, face filters, location filters, selfie filters, on-demand geofilters, or video filters, it’s just irritating when they no longer work. This issue has occurred, not just to iOS users, but Android users as well. In this post, I am going to show you how to fix the Snapchat filters not working issue on your iPhone, iPod, or iPad.
What are Snapchat filters?
Snapchat filters, also called lenses, is a feature on all Snapchat mobile applications that allows you to add effects and sounds to your face once the application detects it. Though it was a paid addition in the beginning, filters are now freely available in the app now that Snapchat has diversified their money making streams. So if the feature is free to use, why can’t you use it? Let us find out.
Know how to use Snapchat
Before you can enjoy Snapchat filters, you need to figure out a few things. First, the app requires a working internet connection, whether Wi-Fi or mobile data to function. You also need to free up some phone memory –nothing much –a few hundred megabytes or so will do. Since this app is a monstrous data consumer, ensure that your data plan is unlimited.
Switching on Snapchat filters
If your Snapchat filters aren’t working, the first thing you should do is to make sure that you have enabled Filters in your Snapchat settings. This can be done by following these steps:
- Open Snapchat and on your camera screen, tap the icon on the top left to visit your profile
- Tap the Settings icon
- Go to Additional Services > Manage
- Toggle the Filters to the on position
If you need to enable an additional filter like the On-Demand Geofilter, you should go to the device’s settings and choose Snapchat then toggle on the Location. It is worth noting that snapchat filters aren’t always correct when establishing your location.
This will affect approximately 40% of Snapchat users who have a problem with their lenses. The lenses function comes as an upgrade with the newer versions of the Snapchat app, so if your device is not compatible with the update’s base technical requirements, your filters will most obviously not work.
For your device to be compatible with lenses, it should be above any of the following: iPad 2nd Generation and above, iPod 5th Generation and above, Original iPad Mini, or iPhone 4S and later. If your device technical requirements are below any of the following, it could be the reason why you are trying the lenses function with no results. Downloading the app on your iPhone 3, iPhone 4, old iPods, and old iPads, could be one of the reasons you aren’t able to enjoy using lenses.
Some filters are released by companies for promotional purposes. Popular movie brands release their custom filters for weeks, days, or even hours, after which the offer is retracted. Popular brands that hit Snapchat filters list includes Batman Vs Superman and Deadpool. After the limited campaign period is over, do not bother looking for the filters any more as they were only temporary.
When Snapchat is not the problem
Even after you have upgraded the device, connected to the internet, and met all the base requirements, you might experience a few hitches that might stop your enjoyment of lenses. Please note that the fault is not on Snapchat but rather a failure in your device capabilities. These hitches include face swap filters not selecting your face or that voice changers fail to enhance one’s voice. Sometimes it’s a processor speed issue and you need to be patient with your device.
