Are you having trouble sending an audio message on iPhone or iPad? Well, this guide will show you how to easily record a voice message and send it through the Messages app. iPhone voice messages work pretty much the same as voice messages do on WhatsApp. Follow these steps to record a voice text and send it via iMessage on iPhone.
- Open iMessage
- Tap Compose or open any conversation
- Tap and hold the microphone icon at the bottom then record your message
- Swipe up to send the message after you’ve finished recording
If you’ve messed up your recording and you’d wish to discard it, just swipe to the left. You should also move the microphone much closer to your mouth when recording a voice message for it to be clear.
How to send an audio message via WhatsApp
- Open WhatsApp
- Tap any conversation or compose a new one
- Tap and hold the microphone icon located at the bottom left
- Record your message while holding the icon then release it when done
- Tap send
Common problems when recording and sending audio messages on iPhone or iPad
Audio message disappeared
An audio message will only last for about 2 minutes after recording before disappearing. Within this time, you should have either decided to send it or discard it. Make sure to save it if you intend to use it at a later date.
Audio message fading
If your iMessage or WhatsApp audio message fades or the volume is so low that you miss the start, it could be an issue with background noise. Make sure that you record in a quiet place. You should also move the microphone closer to your mouth. If you need a very high quality recording, you can use a microphone like Lolly 3D.
iPhone or iPad microphone isn’t working
This requires a set of procedures to get it to work once again. First of all, try using other audio recording apps to find out if the problem is only occurring on iMessage. I have created a detailed guide to show you how to fix an iPhone microphone. While the guide was created with iPhone 6 in mind, it will work for any iPhone model.

I hope you’ve managed to record and send an audio clip via your iPhone. This feature is only convenient for short texts. If you wish to send music or a long audio file, you should use messengers such as WhatsApp or Telegram.
