What is iTunes Helper?
iTunesHelper is a program developed by Apple that enables iTunes to start automatically whenever you connect your iPhone, iPod, or iPad to your computer.
iTunes comes with an option to enable an automatic start whenever an Apple device is connected. If this option is checked, then iTunes Helper will handle the automatic opening of iTunes.

You don’t need this program in order to view your iOS device on iTunes. The difference is, when this program isn’t working, you will have to turn on iTunes by clicking on it after connecting your iPhone, iPad, or iPod.
However, when iTuneshelper is running, this procedure will occur automatically. The question is what difference it actually makes to have it open your iTunes automatically.
If you feel like this program is a bother or hinders the performance of your computer, then you can eliminate it. However, if you are just curious but haven’t had any negative performance issues caused by this program then there is no need to remove it.

- On your Windows 7, 8, or 10 computer, press Ctrl + Shift + Esc simultaneously to open the task manager
- Go to the Startup tab
- Select iTunesHelper
- Click on disable on the lower right side of the window
- Close your task manager
How to remove iTunes Helper from Mac?
- Open System Preferences
- Go to Accounts
- Under Login Items, find and remove iTuneshelper
The next time you restart your computer, iTunesHelper won’t start automatically. However, when you open iTunes, the program will resume working.
