You have successfully set up your iOS device or just trying out on the latest iOS 11.26 and your iPhone restore is stuck on updating iCloud settings. Do not panic as you can get out of this without having to visit an Apple dealer. iPhone 4s and 5c have actually stopped receiving updates and I do not recommend updating them to iOS 9 and later.
What causes the iPhone to get stuck on updating iCloud settings?
This primary issue that causes iCloud to freeze at updating is if you have lots of files including media, documents, or any other data. In most cases, you will have to wait as there is no alarm. Give your iPhone or iPad time to upload, probably overnight, and see if the problem is sorted out.
Devices including the iPhone 4s, iPhone 5, iPhone 5s, and iPhone 5c can take time to load especially if the upgrade is iOS 9 or a more recent version.

How to fix iOS stuck on updating iCloud issue
When iOS 11 is stuck on updating iCloud settings or any other iOS version for that matter, then use the following steps to solve the problem.
Ensure you have a good internet connection
An iCloud update needs a good internet connection –ensure that your internet functions perfectly. You might also receive the message that Updating iCloud settings are unauthorized. This signals a low internet connection. You might consider moving your device near your internet router or changing your ISP. You can also leave the update to complete overnight when there are few people connected to your home internet connection.
Restart or Force restart your device
If you’ve waited for so long but nothing seems to take place, you might be wondering how to stop iCloud from updating. The best option, in this case, is to restart or force restart your device.
If your iPhone X is stuck on updating iCloud settings, you can restart it by long-pressing the sleep/wake button on the upper side of your device. Select Slide power off after the dialogue pops up. After about 30sec of inactivity, power on the device again and see if it works.
If this does not work, consider force restarting your device. For this, you will have to follow the following procedure according to what you have.
- For iPhone 6, or any other previous versions, hold down the sleep/wake button with the home button until the Apple logo appears.
- For iPhone 6S, 7, or later use the sleep/wake button in combination with the volume down button. This also applies to iPhone X without the home button.
- For iPads use the home button and the sleep/wake and you will be set.
Note that you won’t lose any data while doing this process. You can also do a full restore.

Fix with iTunes
If you’ve installed iTunes on a Mac or PC you can also use it to restore and update your iPhone or iPad. To do this you will require;
- Connect your device, whether it is an iPhone x stuck on updating iCloud settings or any other iPhone version to your computer. It should recognize the device immediately and open iTunes.
- Check for updates and if you find click to download and update.
If this does not work you can consider switching to recovery mode.
This can be done when you connect your device to the Mac or PC with iTunes and press the power and the volume until it shows the logo, keep pressing until it enters recovery mode. You can also repair your device by either updating or be restoring your iPhone or iPad.
