Snap Map is a Snapchat interactive map application that allows friends to connect and share their activities. You can share pictures from locations you’ve visited on the Stories collection.
This would be particularly interesting for people who love traveling as they get to explore places and sites they would like to visit vicariously through the posts of others.
You may find that you can’t update your status, cannot see your friend’s location or the location is not updating. This could mean that Snap Map or Snap Chat Map is not working.
5 ways to fix Snap Map when it is not working
here are a few fixes you may want to try:
1. Update the app
To improve on service provision, Snapchat will add new features to the app, by releasing updates via the Play Store or App Store.
You should, therefore, ensure the app is updated. For iOS users, go to App Store > Profile icon, find Snapchat then click Update. For Android users, go to Play Store > Menu > My Apps & Games, search for Snapchat then click Update.
2. Update your phone’s operating system
Phone companies update their operating systems often, so if you are using Android or iOS, ensure your handset is updated.
To update iOS, go to Settings > General > Software Update. If you are using Android, go to Settings > System > System Update.
3. Ensure you have a stable internet connection
You will need a strong internet connection for Snapchat to load the stories without a hitch.
Check that your router is properly connected to a power source to allow it to work at optimum
4. Check if Snapchat servers are working
You may find that Snapchat servers are down, probably during routine maintenance or depending on the level of activity going on, hence it’s not working.
In this case, there is nothing you can do other than to wait it out. However, if the servers are not down, then try the other solutions below.
3. Restart the Snapchat app
Rebooting the Snapchat app may be the solution you need. It could be that Snapchat was not initiated correctly, causing some complications and temporary issues.
Follow these steps to restart your app:
On Android devices
- Go to Settings
- Click Application Management
- Select Snapchat
- Tap on Force stop.
- Delete Snapchat from recent Apps
- Relaunch from the home page.

4. Clear cache
The cache is a collection of data about the way you are using the app. Over time the cache eats up a large chunk of your phone’s memory, leading to problems while using Snapchat.
The good news is that this in no way affects the data stored. It just syncs the app with the server once duplicate files are deleted.
Here is a step by step guide on how to clear cache
- Start the Snapchat app.
- Select your profile icon.
- Select the Settings icon.
- Tap on Account Action, then Clear Cache.
5. Uninstall and Reinstall Snapchat
You have tried everything and it all seems to be failing. We recommend Uninstalling and reinstalling Snapchat. It takes care of any errors, stops any corrupted files that could affect the running of Snapchat
- Go to the Snapchat app on your device.
- Tap and hold the app icon.
- Select uninstall or delete the app
- Go to Play Store, or App Store depending on the phone you’re using.
- On the search bar, look for Snapchat
- Open the downloaded app and key in your login information
Are wondering when Snap Maps updates, it is good to know that, unlike Google Maps, Snapchat does not work in the background.
All updates will therefore happen once you log on to the app. It is always important to ensure that the location settings on your device are activated before you go on Snapchat, for accurate updates.
