How to view banned Telegram channels

“This channel is unavailable”. That is the message you’ll receive when trying to access banned Telegram channels. The reason could be privacy restrictions on your Telegram account, the channel was removed by Telegram, or your account is banned from the channel.

To get a better understanding, read our troubleshooting guide below.

Why a channel is banned on Telegram

The main reason a channel or account gets banned on Telegram is a violation of policies. The common triggers, in this case, are sharing of 18+ and pirated content, harassing and threatening people, and misusing a person’s private information.

So, the simplest way to keep your account and channel in the clear is to abide by the privacy policies. You can also get banned from a group for violating its rules and not necessarily those of Telegram.

You can view banned channels or those with restrictions by using the following workarounds.

Privacy restriction

When the ban is due to privacy restrictions in your area or on the device you’re using, you can bypass the limitations by:

1. Using a VPN

Find a good VPN and install it on the device that you use to access Telegram. Turn it on and pick an area with no restrictions. Launch your Telegram account and see if you can view the banned channels.

The VPN hides your device’s IP address and allows you to avoid any restrictions that might have been placed to prevent access to certain channels.

2. Turning off filter options in settings

To view banned and illegal telegram channels on devices with active privacy restrictions, turn off the filter options.

  • Open the Telegram app
  • Go to “Settings”
  • Tap on “Privacy and Security”
  • Tap on “Sensitive Content”
  • Look for “Disable Filtering” and toggle its button to the right to turn it On
  • Restart your device or force close the app for the changes to take effect
  • Open the Telegram App and search for the channel

When it comes to iPhone and other iOS devices, the procedure is not as simple. Apple has a very strict privacy policy when it comes to using Telegram.

You’ll have to use a desktop version of Telegram to turn off the filtering option on your account. Here is how to go about it:

  • Download and install Telegram for Windows (or for whichever OS you’re using).
  • Open Telegram on your desktop/PC.
  • A QR code will appear on the screen.
  • To log in, you must scan the QR code.
  • Open your Telegram account on your iPhone.
  • Go to “Settings”, then “Devices” and select “Scan QR code”.
  • Use the QR code scanner to scan the QR code on your computer screen.
  • You’ll be logged in immediately.
  • Now, click the menu icon on the top-left corner.
  • Go to “Settings”.
  • Click on “Privacy and Security”.
  • Look for “Sensitive content”. Under it, you’ll see “Disable Filtering”.
  • Toggle the “Disable Filtering” button to the right to enable it.
  •  Force close the app and reopen it so that the changes can take effect.
  • Try to open the banned channels through the mobile app.

2. Account ban

If your account was banned from a channel, you’ll have to create a new account to rejoin. First, delete your current account, get a new number for creating the account, then follow the steps below:

  • Open the Telegram App.
  • Create a new account.
  • Search the group or channel that you were blocked from.
  • Join the channel.

3. Telegram ban

If you’re the owner of the banned channel, your best bet is to appeal to the Telegram official.

  • Go to the official Telegram support page and outline the issues with your channel.
  • They will review and respond within 24 hours.
  • If the issue is on their end, they’ll fix it immediately or provide instructions on how to unblock a telegram channel.
  • If it’s a privacy violation issue, they’ll communicate accordingly.

Lastly, in the unlikely event that none of the solutions above help you to view banned telegram channels, you should consider using third-party tools. For example, you can log in to your Telegram account through Nicegram and view all banned channels.
